The D-Day landing beaches, from the sea

A 45-minute immersive tour on board L'Archimède, an amphibious passenger boat, at the heart of the artificial harbour of Arromanches. Bilingual audioguide, six daily departures planned.

An immersive tour at the heart of the artificial harbour

Boarding takes place directly from the slipway at Arromanches. The launch of the amphibious boat from the beach is already the first sequence of the experience: gravel rattling under the hull, the hull touching the water, the angle changing. On board, 43 seats, under French flag.

For 45 minutes, L’Archimède runs along the Phoenix caissons offshore, brushes the area of the Beetles still visible from the shore, and lets you read from the water the natural amphitheatre of Arromanches that framed Mulberry “B”. The narration covers the Gold Beach sector and the engineering of the artificial harbour as it unfolds before you.

Bilingual audioguide, measured reading

Historical commentary will be delivered through headphones, in French and English — at each passenger’s own pace. No overstatement, no sound effects. The construction of the artificial harbour, its decisive role in the logistics of the landings, the engineering of the caissons and their dismantling. A reading, not a show.
